Castanopsis rhamnifolia is a species of tree fromthe beech family (Fagaceae) that occurs in Southeast Asia.

features

Castanopsis rhamnifolia is a tree . The leaves are elongated, elliptical, ovate or obovate. The leaf margin is entire.

The fruit cups (cupulae) are studded with simple spikes . The spines are straight, close together and completely cover the surface of the fruit cup. The fruit cups, including the spines, are a maximum of four centimeters in diameter, usually 2.5 to 4 centimeters. The fruit cups are always individually.

The nut is longer than it is wide and spherical or conical . They are slightly flattened on the adaxial side.

Flowering time is from March to October. The fruit ripens from January to July.

Distribution and locations

The species occurs in Thailand , Myanmar , Malaysia , Singapore and Indonesia . It grows in evergreen lowland forests and in pine - oak - dipterocarpus forests at 100 to 800 m above sea level.
