Castel Rigone is a district ( fraction , Italian frazione ) of the Italian municipality Passignano sul Trasimeno in the province of Perugia in Umbria .

geography

The place is located about seven kilometers west of the capital Passignano sul Trasimeno and about 15 km northwest of the provincial and regional capital Perugia . The place is at 653  m slm and had 400 inhabitants in 2001. In 2011 there were 415 inhabitants. The place had two city gates, Porta Ponente and Porta Monterone, the latter of which still exists. The local churches belong to the Archdiocese of Perugia-Città della Pieve .

history

The place was first mentioned in the 11th century as Poggio della Corte di Rigone . The place was fortified in 1297, in 1451 and in 1479 the city walls were reinforced.

Attractions

  • Santissimo Sacramento , church in the center from the 16th century. Contains the canvas painting L'Ultima Cena by Silla Piccinino, dated 1598. The lunette of the facade was closed when the organ was installed. This was created in 1768.
  • Madonna dei Miracoli , sanctuary just outside the town center, built on December 15, 1494 by Pope Alexander VI. was allowed. Contains among others the works Madonna del Rosario (1558) by Bernardo di Girolamo Rosselli, frescoes by Tommaso Bernabei (called Il Papacello, Cortona , 1505–1559). The fresco Incoronazione di Maria Giovan Battista Caporali is also attributed.
  • San Bartolomeo , church just outside the town center at the beginning of Via della Vigna.

Sports

The football club Castel Rigone Calcio , founded in 1998, played in the fourth-class Lega Pro Seconda Divisione in the 2013/2014 season . In 2014 the association was dissolved.
