Castello Caldora

The Castello Caldora is the ruin of a hilltop castle at the highest point in the Italian municipality of Civitaluparella in the province of Chieti .

history

The exact year of construction of the castle is not known, but it is very old. It was first mentioned in a bull by Pope Alexander III. , in which in 1173 the old borders of the Diocese of Chieti were sanctioned. In the 15th century, Antonio Caldora chose the castle as a safe haven during his military efforts against Ferdinand of Aragon .

description

The castle ruins at the highest point of the village are made of quarry stone , limestone pebbles and sandstone .

On a photo from the end of the 19th century or the beginning of the 20th century you can still see the foundation of a small castle tower. Presumably the last ruins of the castle were "plundered" and so the traces of this tower were lost.
