Catherine Quittet (born January 22, 1964 in Megève ) is a former French ski racer . She was one of the most successful female athletes in the second half of the 1980s.

biography

Quittet achieved numerous podium places in the World Cup in downhill , giant slalom and Super-G . She was able to win two races. At the Junior European Championship in 1981 and the Junior World Championship in 1982 , she won the gold medal in the downhill. Quittet was French champion seven times from 1980 to 1989 . However, she suffered a severe ligament injury in her left knee on the descent in February 1987, had to undergo knee surgery in Lyon in April (her third in total) and had to struggle with fitness problems for a long time. She was less successful at major title competitions. At the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary , she finished eighth in the giant slalom as one of the favorites. At the Ski World Championships in 1987 in Crans-Montana, she was ranked 9th in the downhill and giant slalom. However, the races at the 1989 World Ski Championships in Vail were disappointing when she finished 12th (giant slalom) and 15th (Super-G).

In 1990 she was injured in a fall on the Santa Caterina descent , and afterwards she never returned to the Ski World Cup .
