CAVOK is a digital asset management - software which since 2012 by the Darmstadt developed 14 peak GmbH.

application areas

DAM deals with the management of content and data in general. Different users in the company should be able to deal with digital media as easily as possible, i.e. be able to find, access and use them quickly, store them and save them in a reusable manner. The DAM Cavok is mainly used in advertising and marketing departments of companies, in advertising agencies, prepress companies and publishers to:

  1. To collect, produce and manage media files (images, graphics, logos, videos, texts, presentations, layouts, videos, audio files) centrally;
  2. Assign metadata, search for files by metadata, text content and image similarity;
  3. Organize correction workflows between customer and company, e.g. B. between marketing department and advertising agency;
  4. to make media available to other systems (web shop, website, ERP system) via links as a web service.

description

According to a survey by Research In Action, Cavok is among the top ten in German-speaking countries. The system differs from earlier DAM systems through its independent service-oriented architecture as a web service and through the separation of the system core from the layer for integration and adjustments.

The system can have a SOAP - and REST - API driven and using scripting languages such as PHP or JavaScript are expanded. This is for easier automation and linking with other systems.

In order to limit the effects on the customer-specific adjustments that are common in DAM projects during updates, these are separated from the core of the system. The adjustments are created as scripts in a separate script development level. This should not change the stability of the overall system during updates, and changes to the adjustments should be avoided.

The application server ( web service ) runs under the Linux and macOS operating systems . Linux and macOS as well as Windows servers and the Helios Universal File Server widely used by media companies are used as file servers. The system can be scaled and virtualized across multiple servers and locations . As database is MySQL or MariaDB supported. The software is installed on a web server and used with a web browser without additional plugins. The web interface is browser-independent and supports u. a. Chrome , Firefox , Safari . There are no apps for mobile devices, and operation on smartphones and tablets is also via a browser.

The user interface and administration are multilingual. The metadata model allows terms to be created and linked in several languages in order to simplify keywording and research across languages.

According to a concurrent user license model, the manufacturer offers installation on the customer's hardware ( on premises ), commercial hosting ( SaaS as private cloud ), support and additional developments for the software.
