Philipp Anton Schilgen (* 1792 in Osnabrück ; † November 29, 1857 there ) was a German painter .

Life and works

Until 1825, Philipp Anton Schilgen received artistic training at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Peter Cornelius . From 1830 to 1832 he lived in Rome , after which he worked in Munich . For the west wing of the arcades of the Munich court garden he created a picture for the foundation of the Primogenitur by Albrecht IV. In 1506. The painting, originally a fresco applied to lime plaster , was later replaced by a version that was painted and supplemented with germinal colors on cement plaster . For the king's reception room in the royal building of the residence, he painted 24 pictures of Aeschylus' tragedies based on designs by Ludwig von Schwanthaler . A robbery of Helena after a box by Cornelius ended up in the Neue Pinakothek . A youth portrait of the writer Levin Schücking dates from 1834 . In 1847 Schilgen portrayed the superintendent Johann Christian Lange.
