Cay Hartwig Beseler
Cay Hartwig Beseler (born November 6, 1765 in Rendsburg , † July 1, 1818 in Rödemis ) was a royal Danish councilor and dike inspector.

Cay Hartwig Beseler was a son of Barthold Jonas Beseler the Elder and his wife Anna Elisabeth, née Wommelsdorf (1734–1786). The father founded the Beseler bell foundry family , in which Cay Hartwig's brother Barthold Jonas Beseler the Younger also worked .
Cay Hartwig Beseler studied law at the University of Kiel and also studied mathematics . He also learned dyke sciences from Johannes Nikolaus Tetens . He traveled through several duchies, to East Friesland and Holland and sailed on the Elbe, Weser and Jade. To this end, he wrote travel reports in which he criticized the condition of the dikes at Nordstrand and Pellworm .
In 1793 Beseler took over the office of dike commissioner in Husum. In 1794 he drew up plans for the construction of new dykes for Pellworm, which had come off during storm surges. He also mapped the island. In February 1796 he wrote an appraisal in which he assessed the optimal course and dimensions of the Galmsbüll dike .
From March 1796 to 1818 Beseler worked as a dike judge and bailiff in the Vogtei Rüstringen . The municipalities of Heppens , Neuende , Schortens and Sande , where he lived during this time , also fell within his area of responsibility . In 1807 he took over the offices of the royal Danish chamber council and state dike inspector for the Duchy of Schleswig. He chose Rödemis as his place of residence. He died here in 1818 due to an illness he suffered while on duty.
Cay Hartwig Beseler was married to Sophie Magdalena Jahn (1768-1820), whose brother Jacob Jahn was a syndic of the Schleswig-Holstein knighthood. The couple had four sons and three daughters. This included the lawyers Wilhelm and Georg and their daughter Katharina (* 1797), who married the Pellworm governor Nicolaus Klinker.
