National parks

There are two national parks in the district near the state capital Belmopan. Both sanctuaries are managed by the Belize Audubon Society.

  • Blue Hole National Park . The Blue Hole National Park (2 km²) on the Hummingbird Highway has two cave systems and a deep blue water hole that gave the park its name.
  • Guanacaste National Park . The Guanacaste National Park north of the George Price Highway at the gates of Belmopan is one of the most visited parks in Belize. It takes its name from a guanacaste tree whose trunk is split into three parts.
