The Cayuga Speedway , also known under the name Cayuga 2000 Speedway , was a motorsport racetrack in Cayuga, Ontario , Canada . The track opened in 1966 and is considered one of Canada's premier racing venues.
It's a 0.63 mile (1.01 kilometer) oval. There are numerous campsites and free parking spaces in the vicinity of the route . Concerts are occasionally held on the race track on race weekends.
On June 8, 2006, a company from Toronto took over the route. This improved the track, so that hopes of a race in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in the 2007 season were raised. However, this chose the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal as the venue for their first race in Canada.
For several years, Cayuga Speedway was a venue for races in the CASCAR Super Series, today's NASCAR Canadian Tire Series .
On May 26, 2007, the season opening race and at the same time the first ever race of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series took place at Cayuga Speedway. DJ Kennington started from pole position in this race. Don Thomson, Jr., a multiple-time CASCAR Super Series champion, won the race.
In 2010 the operation was stopped.
