Cedric Hubbell Whitman
Cedric Hubbell Whitman (born December 1, 1916 in Providence , Rhode Island , † June 5, 1979 in Cambridge , Massachusetts ) was an American classical philologist .
Life
He earned an AB from Harvard University in 1943 and a Ph.D. 1947 ( The Religious Humanism of Sophocles ). Since 1947 he taught at Harvard.
In 1961 Whitman was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
