Boxing career
Kamacı was as an amateur in 1964, 1965 and 1966 Turkish light middleweight champion and reached in this weight class also the 2nd place at the Balkan Championships in 1966 in Belgrade
In 1967 he started his professional career in Vienna under an Austrian license and played 21 of his 57 fights in Austria, more than half of them in the Wiener Stadthalle . At the beginning of his career he lost two of three fights against Hans Koschina and boxed against Peter Marklewitz (8-0) in a draw.
From March 1968 to September 1970 he won each of his 13 fights and defeated Hartmut Genat (8-1), the Austrian champion Anton Schnedl , the two German ex-European champions Conny Rudhof and Willy Quatuor , and the Italian Italo Duranti (22- 2) and the Cuban Angel Robinson García (106-43).
On March 16, 1971, he then received for the first time a title fight for the European Championship ( EBU ) in the light welterweight division against the French Rene Roque . However, the fight in the Wiener Stadthalle ended in a draw, so Roque remained European champion. There were two more draws against Horst Brinkmeier and Walter Blaser (21-2), but also wins against Baldassare Picone (32-4) and again Angel Robinson García.
On October 1, 1972 he got another chance at the EBU title and won it by winning points over 15 rounds against Roger Zami (37-4). But already in the first title defense fight in June 1973 he lost the title again by losing points to the Spaniard Antonio Ortiz . He also lost points against Kokkie Olivier (30-5) and Jo Kimpuani (15-1).
After winning seven fights, including a knockout win against Enzo Pizzoni (29-5), he boxed again for the EBU title on October 31, 1975 against the Spaniard José Ramón Gómez Fouz (35-4) and won by knockout in the seventh round. After a subsequent knockout win against Lothar Abend , he defended the title on points against Jean Saadli (26-3). Then he laid down the title.
After a point loss to Frankie Benitez (24-4) in Madison Square Garden in New York City, he boxed a draw in March 1978 against the Austrian Joseph Pachler (31-2). Until the end of his career in October 1982, he boxed only sporadically. He played a last significant fight on January 26, 1979 in New York City against Johnny Turner (28-2), which he lost prematurely.
