Ceno Kosak (born December 30, 1904 in Marburg an der Drau , † June 16, 1985 in Vienna ) was an Austrian architect , set designer , designer and painter .

Life

Ceno Kosak studied architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1930 to 1932 under Clemens Holzmeister and was then his employee until 1934. From 1935 to 1938 he and Otto Niedermoser headed the “General Forms” class at the Academy. After the “Anschluss” , Kosak was forced to retire on May 1, 1938 as an opponent of the National Socialists and head of the advice center for church arts and crafts as part of the Catholic Action . He then worked as a freelance architect and built buildings in Budweis , Krumau and Vienna until 1945 .

In 1945, Kosak was put back into service. From 1955 to 1971 he was President of the Academy of Applied Arts . In 1960 he was appointed full university professor. From 1971 to 1975 he was head of the Institute for Urban Development, and also president of the Austrian Werkbund .

Kosak was married to the architect Herta. His grave is in the Vienna Central Cemetery (Group 16F, Row 9, No. 14).

His students include u. a. the graphic artist Christoph Donin.
