Centrophenoxine (also meclofenoxate ) is a carboxylic acid ester of dimethylaminoethanol . A substituted phenoxyacetic acid , 4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid, occurs as the acid component .
It is a discontinued drug used to treat the symptoms of senile dementia and Alzheimer's disease . A reduction in the age-related degradation product lipofuscin was only suspected in animal experiments. In Germany, the substance is on the list of substances whose export is monitored because it can potentially be used to manufacture chemical weapons.
