Cerium tungstate is an inorganic chemical compound of cerium from the group of tungstates .

Extraction and presentation

Cerium tungstate can be obtained by reacting cerium (III) nitrate with sodium tungstate . It can also be obtained by reacting tungsten (VI) oxide with ceria at temperatures around 1500 ° C.

In the Ce 2 O 3 -WO 3 system , eight phases with the compositions 3Ce 2 O 3 · WO 3 , 3Ce 2 O 3 · 2WO 3 , α-Ce 2 O 3 · WO 3 , β-Ce 2 O 3 · WO 3 , α-Ce 2 O 3 · 2WO 3 , β-Ce 2 O 3 · 2WO 3 , Ce 2 O 3 · 3WO 3, and 2Ce 2 O 3 · 9WO 3 were found. Of these, the high-temperature phases (β) are metastable.

properties

Cerwungstate is a whitish odorless solid that is practically insoluble in water. It has a monoclinic crystal structure that is isotypic to that of europium tungstate with the space group C 2 / c (space group no.15 ) (a = 7.813, b = 11.720, c = 11.586, β = 109.36 °, Z = 4) .
