Cesareo Gonzalez

Cesáreo González (born May 29, 1903 in Vigo , † March 20, 1968 in Madrid ) was a Spanish film producer.

Life

González came from a poor Galician family. In the mid-1920s he emigrated to Cuba, traveled on to Mexico and finally returned to Spain in 1931. In 1941 he founded the film company Suevia Films , which was to remain one of the most important Spanish film companies for a long time. González preferred to work with a permanent group of directors, including José Luis Sáenz de Heredia and Florián Rey , and also with a permanent group of actors. Among the latter, which he z. T. discovered and promoted were Lola Flores , Carmen Sevilla , José Suárez , Paquita Rico , José Jiménez Fernández and Sara Montiel .

When González died unexpectedly in 1968, the decline of his film company began.

Movies

The first film produced, called Polizón a bordo (Hidden Passenger on Board), was considered the best film of the year in French-speaking Spain. The film El abanderado , produced in 1943, dealt with the Spanish fight against Napoleon . Later on, folklore and comedies were one of the film society's strengths.

The film La venganza ( Revenge ) won a Palme d' Or and was nominated for an Oscar .
