Chäs und Brot is a rural settlement near the hamlet of Oberbottigen in the Bümpliz-Oberbottigen district of Bern . The name of the place is written in the local dialect Chäs u Brot on the national map . The postal address is Bottigenstrasse, 3019 Bern. Until 1919 the area around Chäs and Bread belonged to what was then Bümpliz .
Legend
According to a legend, the Swiss cross was created in Chäs und Brot . On June 21, 1339 the battle of Laupen took place. The U. a. Laupen , besieged by Friborg and Habsburg troops , was liberated that day, among other things with the help of friendly troops from Waldstätten and the Haslital . At that time, the friendly troops did not yet march against their enemies under a common banner. The day before the battle, the Waldstätter and the Haslitaler ate each other in cheese and bread . One wondered how one could tell friend from foe. One woman had the brilliant idea: She tore up linen cloths and placed them crosswise on their shirts for the fighters.
