The Chäserrugg is a mountain in the municipality of Alt St. Johann in the canton of St. Gallen in eastern Switzerland . Its summit is in the Appenzell Alps at 2262  m above sea level. M. It is the easternmost of the (seven) Churfirsten and lies between the upper Toggenburg and the Walensee .

Due to its low notch height of only 14 meters compared to the Hinterrugg , the Chäserrugg is actually only a secondary peak to the highest of the Churfirsten.

The Chäserrugg is accessed from Unterwasser by the Iltiosbahn and the Iltios – Chäserrugg aerial cableway . The former summit restaurant at its mountain station was replaced in 2015 by a new building designed by Herzog & de Meuron . This was awarded the bronze rabbit architecture prize in 2015.

In winter there is a ski slope and a ski lift on the ridge (Swiss: Rugg ). The ski slope leads over the Stöfeli to the Iltios and is part of the Obertoggenburg ski area . Orientation boards tell skiers not to leave the piste, as the area around the Chäserrugg is rocky and in many areas has dangerous karst holes and crevices that cannot be seen in winter because of the snow. From the Iltios to the Stöfeli ( 1682  m above sea level ) there was also a ski lift until 2015, which was replaced in summer 2015 by the construction of the Espel - Stöfeli - Chäserrugg 10-person gondola lifts. The whole ski area around the Chäserrugg includes 60 km of slopes and combines Wildhaus , Unterwasser and Alt St. Johann.

On the high plateau Rosenboden at 2,262 m there is a 3 km long circular path, which is suitable for an easy hike and offers a 360 ° view of the surrounding mountains.
