Ch'oe Hwi (* 1954 ) is a North Korean politician of the Labor Party of Korea (PdAK), who is among other things a member of the Central Committee (ZK) of the PdAK, deputy head of the Central Committee's department for propaganda and agitation and a deputy to the Supreme People's Assembly .

Life

Ch'oe Hwi, son of Choi Jae-ha, who served as Minister of Construction after the Korean War , graduated from the Institute of Philosophy at Kim Il-sung University . Until the mid-1980s he worked in the arts sector of the People's Democratic Republic and as a functionary of the " Kim Il-sung " - Youth League of the Labor Party of Korea (PdAK). He took on his first more important position in 1985, initially as head of the "P'ibada" opera troupe and subsequently in 1987 as head of the "Pyongyang" art troupe. In January 1996 he returned to the Kim Il-sung youth league and became secretary for extracurricular training in their central committee. In the late 1990s, he was also Vice-Chairman of the Pan-National Alliance for the Reunification of Korea (Pommrinyon) and took part in various events aimed at reunification and the promotion of bilateral relations with South Korea . He also accompanied the Pyongyang schoolchildren's art troupe on a visit to the People's Republic of China in 1999 . In 2000 he was again head of the "Pyongyang" art troupe and at the same time vice-chairman of the Korean- Sudanese Friendship Society. In 2004 he moved to the party administration and was deputy head of a Central Committee department. As such, he also dealt with the establishment of the "U'nhasu" orchestra, in which the wife of Kim Jong-un Ri Sol-ju was active as a singer, as well as the " Moranbong Band ", a girl band that is one in North Korea enjoys high popularity.

In April 2013, Ch'oe became deputy head of the Central Committee's department for propaganda and agitation and as such took part in various visits and inspection trips by Kim Jong-un. In December 2013, he was on the funeral committee at the funeral of Lieutenant General Kim Kuk-thae . In March 2014 he was elected deputy of the Supreme People's Assembly and represents constituency 171 Subok there . He was also a member of the funeral committee at the funeral of Jon Pyong-ho in July 2014 , in November 2015 at the funeral of Marshal Ri Ul-sol, and in December 2015 at the funeral of Kim Yang-gon . Shortly thereafter, he became director of a planned concert tour of the State Choir and the Moranbong Band through the People's Republic of China, which was canceled at the last moment. At the 7th party congress, which took place from May 6th to 9th, 2016, he was elected a member of the Central Committee of the PdAK. In addition, he was one of the speakers at the opening of the party congress.
