Kjølv Egeland

Kjølv Egeland (born September 8, 1918 in Haugesund , † December 30, 1999 in Stavanger ) was a Norwegian university director, literary researcher and politician of the Arbeiderpartiet (Ap).

Life

In 1943, Egeland graduated with a major in Norwegian . In the period from 1944 to 1963 Egeland worked as a teacher at various schools. He was also in Stockholm hired as Norwegischlehrer at the University of Stockholm. From 1963 to 1969 and again from 1974 to 1985 he was rector of the Cathedral School in Stavanger. In the meantime, Egeland served from 1969 to 1974 as director of the Rogaland Province District College .

Political career

Between 1955 and 1971 Egeland was a member of the Stavanger City Council. From 1963 to 1965 he was also a member of the Fylkesting of Rogaland. In the Norwegian referendum on Norway's accession to the EU, he was on the side of the EU opponents. On January 15, 1976, he was appointed Minister of Church and Education in the Nordli government. He held the office until October 8, 1979.

Literary researcher

Egeland specialized in the field of Norwegian literature from the interwar years. In 1953 he published the biography Nordahl Grieg . In 1960 the book Skyld og skjebne followed , an analysis of the works of the Norwegian writer Sigurd Hoel . Together with Tordis Ørjasæter he wrote the fifth volume of Norges litteraturhistorie , a series of books on Norwegian literary history. This volume also dealt with literature in the interwar period.

Private

Kjølv Egeland is the father of the politician and diplomat Jan Egeland and the literary researcher Marianne Egeland .
