Kim Yang-gon (born April 24, 1942 in Anju-si , P'yŏngan-namdo ; † December 29, 2015 ) was a North Korean politician of the Labor Party of Korea (PdAK), who was among other things a candidate for the Politburo of the Central Committee (ZK ) was the PdAK, Secretary of the Central Committee and Head of the Department for the United Front of the Central Committee. He was also a member of the Central Committee of the PdAK and a deputy and member of the Presidium of the 12th Supreme People's Assembly .

Life

After attending school, Kim Yang-gon completed a degree in cultural studies with a focus on French literature at Kim-Il-sung University . In September 1986 he became Deputy Head of the Central Committee's Department for International Affairs and a member of the Association for Foreign Affairs. In 1990 he was elected for the first time as a deputy to the Supreme People's Assembly and from then on belonged to it for constituency 84. In 1991 he became vice-chairman of the Association for Foreign Affairs and chairman of the North Korean-Japanese Friendship Association.

Kim Yang-gon, who was awarded the Kim-Il-sung Order in October 1995, became head of the Central Committee's Department for International Affairs in 1997, a member of the Central Committee of the PdAK in 2000 and an advisor to the National Defense Commission in 2005 . Furthermore, in 2007 he became head of the Central Committee Department for the United Front and has been a member of the Presidium of the 12th Supreme People's Assembly since 2009.

At the Third Party Conference of the Korean Labor Party on September 28, 2010 , Kim Yang-gon became Secretary of the Central Committee for the United Front and candidate of the Central Committee's Politburo. In July 2012 he was honored with the Kim Jong il Order.

Kim Yang-gon was largely responsible for relations with South Korea . In 2007 he was involved in organizing a meeting between Kim Jong-il and South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun . In August 2015, he held direct talks with the South Koreans, which led to a defuse of the most serious conflict between the two countries in years.

According to official information, he died in a traffic accident on December 29, 2015 .
