Chakan ( Marathi : चाकण , Cākaṇ ) is a small town and a census town of 41,113 (2011) inhabitants and a special economic zone in the administrative district of Pune in the Indian state of Maharashtra .

The city, located at an average altitude of almost 650 m, is about 60 kilometers east-southeast of Mumbai and 20 kilometers north of Pune .
