The Pune Airport ( english : Pune International Airport ; Marathi : पुणे आंतरराष्ट्रीय विमानतळ, लोहगाव Pune āntararāṣṭrīya vimānataḷ, Lohagāv ) is located about 10 km north-east of Pune in the state of Maharashtra in India . It is operated by the Airport Authority of India and shares the runway with the Lohegaon Air Force Station . The airport will be served four times a week from Frankfurt am Main in the 2010/11 winter timetable .
Pune Airport is primarily the Lohegaon AFS of the Indian Air Force (IAF) and there have been problems in the past due to civil aircraft movements at night.
The construction of a new airport for the Pune region has been planned for a long time and the government of the state of Maharashtra has commissioned an industrial consortium to drive the project forward. The planned location is the area between Chakan and Rajgurunagar , about 40 km north of Pune on National Highway 50 to Nasik , but the construction permit has not yet been granted.
Various domestic airlines serve the Indian metropolises. Pune has had the status of an international airport since 2005, when Air India started a flight connection to Dubai , which has since been reduced to two flights a week. From 2008 to 2019 Lufthansa offered a direct flight to Frankfurt am Main . To this end, a Boeing 737-800 operated by Privatair and specially equipped with a Lufthansa Business Class was used until June 2018 . An A319 from the Lufthansa fleet was used on the route from September 2018 to February 2019. Further negotiations were no longer successful due to the insolvency of Privatair.
