Challenger Racing
The Challenger Racing GmbH is a former German racing team in motor racing . The team was based in Bickenbach an der Bergstrasse .
Challenger Racing was founded in autumn 1991 by Jürgen Feucht , who also took part in the German Touring Car Championship as a driver in a Ford Mustang from 1992 onwards. Despite the more powerful engine, compared to the competition from Mercedes-Benz , BMW or Opel , Feucht was never able to drive the Mustang anywhere near the points. The reasons for this were mainly due to the fact that Challenger did not receive any factory support like the top teams of the competitors. In addition, Feucht could not initially find a permanent tire supplier who would provide affordable racing tires for the Mustang. Only after a year did he get suitable tires from Goodyear from remaining stocks, which were, however, already used up after a year. However, after the contingent expired, the team was unable to afford new tires, as production would only have been resumed if 100 units were purchased.
A major sponsor could not be found until 1993 with the shoe brand Buffalo Boots ; from then on the team was registered as Buffalo Boots Racing . When the homologation for the Ford Mustang expired after 1994 , Jürgen Feucht left the DTM and the team was dissolved.
