Chama is a small town in Rio Arriba County in the US state of New Mexico . It is located on the Rio Chama river of the same name . According to the statistics office, the city had 1,199 inhabitants in 2000.
The city was once a junction within a large narrow-gauge railway network through the Rocky Mountains . Today there is only the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad to Antonito (Colorado) , which was rescued by railroad enthusiasts as a museum railway with a length of 103 kilometers after the route network was closed.
