Chamelaucium ( Syn .: Chamaelaucium DC.) Is a genus of plants in the myrtle family(Myrtaceae). The approximately 13 species are allnativeto Western Australia .
description
Chamelaucium species are evergreen shrubs with essential oils . The flowers stand individually in the leaf axes or grouped together in very differently structured inflorescences. The radially symmetrical , hermaphrodite flowers are five-fold and are pollinated by insects ( entomophilia ) or birds ( ornithophilia ). There are five sepals and five petals each. There are 20 to 25 stamens in each flower , about half of which are sterile staminodes. Two carpels have become an under constant ovary grown, with a stylus and a scar. There are walnut fruits formed. The seeds are winged or wingless.
