Champagne for Room 17 is a German-Swiss-Italian erotic thriller from 1969 by Erwin C. Dietrich . The story is based on the illustrated novel “ Hot bodies for rent ”, which Heinz G. Konsalik wrote under the pseudonym Jens Becker.
action
Inspector Eckstein of the Morals Police discovered during his investigation as part of a surveillance measure by the Hotel Continental that the wife of his colleague Kossek, Ursula, called Uschi, was a noble whore in a brothel disguised as a nail salon or beauty salon, which is run by a former prostitute works to supplement the household budget. In room 17 she is happy to be of service with champagne and other amenities. Obviously, Detective Inspector Kossek is completely clueless. In addition to Uschi, Eva, Renate and Marlis also earn a lot here in order to be able to afford furs, sports cars and apartments. Eckstein wants to blow the call girl ring, which he suspects behind the hustle and bustle, and finally arrest the boss of the gang, a brutal anonymus.
That boss in the background is none other than a certain Dr. Caspari, type of ice-cold criminal in a well-fitting suit with shiny manners and ruthless methods when the prostitutes don't look. If one of the women steps out of line or wants to get out, Caspari makes sure that she doesn't have long to live. Eckstein and Kossek try to end Mr. Caspari's hustle and bustle. One day Ursula Kossek disappears without a trace because Caspari sees her as his own personal security risk. Her life is in danger. The other girls are interrogated by the police but do not dare to speak. Because whoever speaks, Caspari made it unmistakably clear, dies. And soon the first prostitute will be caught who did not comply with it. Finally, a hot lead leads to San Remo, Italy, where the head of the gang obviously has his headquarters. Here there is a showdown between the police and Caspari, in which the policeman's wife finally dies and Caspari judges himself.
Production notes
In addition to his Berlin-based company Urania, Erwin C. Dietrich had owned the Zurich trust company Afiba, which managed financial and legal matters, since 1967. He also worked closely and exclusively with the small company Prestige in Rome, which could be regarded as his mainstay in Italy. So the film came about as a German-Swiss-Italian co-production.
Champagne for room 17 premiered in Germany on September 26, 1969. The text on the movie cover read: “The truth about the violent morality of our time!” The VHS title was Ich bin ein Callgirl , the Italian title Gatta pericolosa . In retrospect, director and producer Erwin C. Dietrich said that this was probably his best directorial work under the pseudonym Michael Thomas.
criticism
The lexicon of international films called the strip a "laboriously constructed and lying colportage".
The Heyne Filmlexikon (1996) described the film as a "quick sex shot from the Erwin C. Dietrich Factory."
