Champions Cup (Russian Billiards)

The Champions Cup ( Russian Кубок Чемпионов Kubok Tschempionow ) is a billiards tournament in the Free Pyramid , a discipline of Russian billiards . The invitation tournament was held for the first time in 2011 and has been held annually in the Russian capital Moscow since 2019 .

Qanybek Saghyndyqow and Oleksandr Palamar won the first two editions .

history

The Champions Cup was held in 2011 on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence in the capital Nur-Sultan as an initially one-time event. 16 players were invited, including the three reigning world champions Nikita Liwada , Kanybek Sagynbajew and Jaroslaw Wynokur as well as record world champion Qanybek Saghyndyqow , who finally won the tournament.

After an eight-year break, there was a new edition in Moscow in 2019 , but this time with only four participants. At the third edition in 2020, the number of participants was increased to eight and women, Diana Mironowa and Elina Nagula, were invited for the first time. In addition, the mode was changed in 2020. Instead of in the knockout system from the start, the game was played in the double knockout system until the semi-finals .
