Elina Michailowna Nagula ( Russian Элина Михайловна Нагула ; born  August 9, 2002 in Tynda ) is a Russian billiard player who competes in the billiard variant Russian billiards .

She became world champion in the free pyramid discipline in 2019 . In addition, the four-time youth world champion has twice been Russian champion and won two world cup tournaments.

Life

Elina Nagula was born in Tynda , Eastern Russia, in 2002 . When Elina was nine years old, her mother moved with her to the capital Moscow to give her better training opportunities.

Career

Elina Nagula began at the age of six with the billiards . Her mother was working in a billiards hall at the time and occasionally took Elina there with her. At a tournament in Khabarovsk , the former world champion Oleksandr Palamar became aware of her and recommended that she take a trainer. At the age of nine she began to train in Sergei Baurov's billiards school in Moscow .

In 2012 and 2013 Nagula took part in the Kremlin Cup for the first time and reached the round of 32 in each case. In 2014, she achieved her first regional successes when Moscow became the junior and women's champion. To date, a total of fourteen other Moscow championship titles have followed, seven of which are among the youths and seven among the women. In May 2014 she won her first medal at the Russian championship in the dynamic pyramid by reaching the semifinals. On the way to the semifinals, she had defeated the reigning world champion Olga Milowanova , among others . A little later she made it to the quarter-finals of the Dynamic Pyramid World Cup . From the beginning of 2014 she regularly took part in the Free Pyramid World Cup. At the end of 2014 she reached the round of 16 at the Kremlin Cup .

In January 2015, Nagula won her first of a total of nine Russian junior championship titles. A little later, she moved into the final of the national championship of women in the combined pyramid for the first time, in which she, however, had to admit defeat Yevgenia Scheldina 3: 4. In the spring of 2015 she reached the quarter-finals at two World Cup tournaments: the Prince Open and the Moscow Mayor's Cup . In October 2015, the 13-year-old became Russian champion for the first time in the Free Pyramid discipline , and in the final she beat Maria Karpova 4-2 . A week later she became youth world champion for the first time with a 5-3 final win against Anastassija Swerinzewa . A few days later, she took part in the adult championship for the first time in Imatra, Finland . With a narrow 4-5 opening defeat against Natalija Kornewa , however , she was eliminated in the second round of the Dynamic Pyramid World Championship . In November 2015 she reached the quarterfinals of the Kremlin Cup and the second round of the World Cup final. At the Free Pyramid World Cup , she managed an opening victory against Diana Abykejewa , before losing to Ukrainian Anastassija Kovalchuk in the round of 16 .

After reaching the quarter-finals at the opening tournament of the Free Pyramid World Cup 2016, Nagula won the bronze medal at the Russian championship in the dynamic pyramid. In July, she reached the quarter-finals at the first-ever Youth World Cup in the Dynamic Pyramid . A little later Nagula succeeded in the Free Pyramid as defending champion again in the final, in which she had to admit defeat Lyubow Dolgaja 2-5 . Together with Marija Karpowa and Diana Mironowa , Nagula became the first Russian team champion in September. In November she reached the semi-finals at the Kremlin Cup for the first time and lost there to Olga Milovanova. At the Free Pyramid World Cup in 2016, she reached the quarter-finals, in which she was defeated by the record world champion Diana Mironova. In December she achieved her first World Cup victory when she defeated the Belarusian Aljaksandra Hisels 5-3 in the final of the final tournament .

At the 2017 Russian Championships, Nagula was runner-up in the Dynamic Pyramid after a 2: 4 final defeat against Tatiana Maximowa , won bronze in the Combined Pyramid and defended the team title together with Marija Karpowa and Diana Mironowa. At the Free Pyramid Youth World Cup , she made it into the final for the third time in a row in 2017. There, like last year, she met Lyubov Dolgaja, against whom she prevailed 5-0 this time. In the Free Pyramid World Cup 2017, she made it into the quarter-finals twice, including the Kremlin Cup , before reaching the semi-finals at the final tournament, where she lost to Kristina Guds (3: 4).

In April 2018, Nagula secured her first World Championship medal when she reached the semi-finals of the Dynamic Pyramid World Championship, in which she was defeated by defending champion Diana Mironova. On the way to the semi-finals, she had defeated Belarusian Kazjaryna Perepechayeva , who then won the World Cup, in the preliminary round . A little later she reached the quarter-finals of the Moscow Mayor's Cup and a week later won a world cup tournament for the second time with a 5-3 final victory over Diana Mironova. At the Free Pyramid Youth World Cup in 2018, she met Lyubov Dolgaja in the final for the third time in a row and managed to defend her title with a 5-2 win. At the Russian team championship she won the third title in a row at the end of August, this time she formed the winning team with Marija Karpowa and Anastassija Stanowowa . At the Kremlin Cup 2018 , she was eliminated in the round of 32. After she had won the bronze medal at the final tournament of the Free Pyramid World Cup, she lost to Anna Kotljar at the 2018 Free Pyramid World Cup .

In spring 2019 Nagula took part in the Combined Pyramid World Cup for the first time. In Khanty-Mansiysk she reached the semi-finals and only just had to admit defeat to the eventual world champion Darja Michailowa . She lost 3: 4, with only one ball missing to win in the decider. A little later she reached the quarter-finals of the Combined Pyramid World Cup . In May 2019 she reached the final of the Moscow Mayor's Cup and lost to Diana Mironova 4: 5, Nagula was only missing one ball here. In the following 14 days she reached the finals in two other tournaments; at the Russian championship in the dynamic pyramid she lost to Anastassija Stanowowa (2: 4) and in the Free Pyramid World Cup again against Diana Mironova (3: 5). In August 2019 she moved into a World Cup final for the first time in Cholponata . At the Free Pyramid World Cup 2019 , she defeated Anna Kotljar and Marija Karpowa, among others, and finally became world champion with a 5-0 win against defending champion Diana Mironova. Two weeks after the World Cup success, she was again Russian team champion together with Marija Karpowa and Anastassija Stanowowa. In September 2019 she made it into the final of the Kremlin Cup for the first time, in which she however had to admit defeat to Kazjaryna Perepechayeva 1: 4. One month later she won the Russian championship in the Free Pyramid in the final against Darja Michailowa (5-2). In the same discipline, she became the youth world champion for the fourth time in November 2019 after beating Alina Sjabirova 5-2 in the final .
