Men's tournament
mode
The mode of the world championship was changed again. After playing in the knockout system since 2015 , the participants now competed against each other again first in the double knockout system and switched to the single knockout system from the sixteenth finals . With 86 players, the number of participants increased slightly compared to the previous year (73).
Tournament course
Preliminary round
In the men's race, 86 participants from 21 countries started. Among them were nine world champions , five of which made it into the final round undefeated: Iossif Abramow , Dmytro Biloserow , Nikita Liwada , Älichan Qaranejew and record world champion Kanybek Sagynbajew . The Kyrgyz Dastan Lepschakow , world champion of the Dynamic Pyramid 2015 and last year's semi- finalist, surprisingly lost his opening game against Gagik Arutyunyan . With three wins, including a narrow 5-4 win against Janusch Markozinski in the last preliminary round, he nevertheless made it to the sixteenth finals. Another world champion who reached the round of 32 via the losers lap was Älibek Omarow . The Kazakh had lost his second round match against the Kyrgyz Ysatbek Ratbekow 5-0 and then defeated Vasif Məmmədov . Two world champions failed in the preliminary round: Leonid Schwyrjajew , winner of the Dynamic Pyramid World Cup 2016 , the last World Cup in Kyrgyzstan, had to admit defeat to Kazakhs Yevgeny Smirnov 2-5 in the opening game . He then won against Viktor Emelyanov (5: 2), before failing in the decisive preliminary round match against Seyxun Ağayev (2: 5). Jernar Tschimbajew , combined pyramid world champion from 2010 remained without a win, twice he lost 4: 5 against Kairat Absatarow and Bakhtovar Abdullojew .
Defending champion Serghei Krîjanovski did not take part this year and justified his cancellation with, among other things, the mode change he rejected and the introduction of time limits in the final. Artyom Balow , his opponent in the 2018 final , lost after his opening win with 3: 5 against Nodirbek Mirzayev , but finally reached the round of 32 with a 5: 1 win against Nürken Süikembajew . Semyon Saizew , semi-finalist of 2018, was unbeaten into the finals.
With 18 players, hosts Kyrgyzstan had the most participants, seven of them made it to the finals and five remained undefeated in the preliminary round, including Asis Madaminov , the bronze medalist in the 2016 Combined Pyramid . Kanat Sydykow, on the other hand, who reached the semi-finals at the Combined Pyramid World Cup at the beginning of the year , lost his opening game against Giorgi Dimitadze (4: 5). He then defeated Uladsislau Radsiwonau (5: 3) before retiring in the third losing round against Pawel Kusmin (0: 5).
The only participant from the German-speaking area was Artur Zarnachian , who did not win in the preliminary round against Kamoliddin Yessiddinov and Olimdschon Turajew .
Final round
In the sixteenth finals there was a clash of two world champions of the dynamic pyramid , in which Dastan Lepschakow , the winner of 2015, prevailed 6: 4 against the reigning title holder Dmytro Biloserow . In addition to Biloserow, four other world champions were eliminated in this round. Nikita Liwada defeated the runner-up of 2010 Pavel Kuzmin (3: 6), Älichan Qaranejew lost to Mykyta Adamez (1: 6), Älibek Omarov against Kairat Absatarow (4: 6) and world champion Kanybek Sagynbajew from Kyrgyzstan had to the Ukrainian Volodymyr Perkun ( 3: 6) beaten.
After Dastan Lepschakow's defeat in the round of 16 against his Kyrgyz compatriot Kairat Absatarow (2: 6), Iossif Abramow was the only world champion left in the tournament, the reigning winner of the combined pyramid. Also in the round of the last 16, Oleg Yerkulew , the winner of the Kremlin Cup 2018 , was eliminated . He lost 4: 6 to Pavel Kuzmin. Last year's finalist Artjom Balow was defeated by the Kyrgyz Asis Madaminow (4: 6).
In the quarter-finals, Pawel Kuzmin, who had not made it past the second round since 2010, made it to the semi-finals for the second time with a 6-4 win over Iossif Abramov. Semyon Saizew defeated the Kazakh Arbi Muzijew (6: 4) and thus reached the semifinals for the second time in a row. In the third quarter-finals, Asis Madaminow prevailed against Jauhen Saltouski (6: 1) and was the last remaining player of the hosts in the last four. His compatriot Kairat Absatarow, however, narrowly failed to Seymur Məmmədov (5: 6). The Azerbaijani, who had made it to the quarter-finals for the second time since 2005 , was the only one of the four semi-finalists who had never reached this round.
The only remaining player who had already played a World Cup final was Pawel Kuzmin. The 2010 vice world champion fell 0: 1 behind in the duel between the two Russians against Semyon Saizew. Then he managed to equalize to 1: 1, before he clearly had to admit defeat 1: 5. The second semi-final, however, turned out to be very even. Seymur Məmmədov won the first game. After equalizing to 1: 1, Asis Madaminow took the lead three times, with Məmmədov each equalizing. In the playoff, Seymur M sichmmədov finally prevailed 8: 3.
The final won Semyon Zaitsev with 4: 3 against Seymur Məmmədov.

final
Both finalists were in a World Cup final for the first time. The 20-year-old Russian Semyon Saizew had achieved his best result to date by reaching the semi-finals last year and had become junior world champion in 2015 . With his opponent, the two-time vice European champion (2005, 2006) Seymur Məmmədov , the previous best performance at a World Cup was already 14 years ago: in 2005 he had reached the quarter-finals. The 33-year-old was also the first Azerbaijani to reach the World Cup final and, after Emir Hüseynov ( 2001 ), the second to make it into the top four.
The target was six competitions. However, the game was played with a time limit of 1:20 hours, so the final ended after seven games.
In the final, Saizew initially took a 1-0 lead, but Məmmədov managed to equalize. The Russian won the following two games, so he was only one game short of victory. Məmmədov, however, came back and equalized to 3: 3. In the play-off, Məmmədov failed to pocket a ball when kick-off. Then Saizew scored an 8-point series and became the eleventh Russian world champion in Russian billiards .

The participants initially competed against each other in a double knockout system . From the quarter-finals onwards, the knockout system was used . With 21 players, the number of participants remained unchanged compared to the previous year.
Tournament course
21 athletes from six countries took part in the World Cup, including three former world champions who were also the three reigning titleholders: In addition to record world champion and defending champion Diana Mironova , these were Belarusian Kazjaryna Perepchayeva , who won the Dynamic Pyramid in 2018 , and Russian Darja Mikhailova , who became world champion in the combined pyramid in early 2019 .
While Mikhailova and Mironova made it into the quarter-finals with two 4-0 wins each, Perepchayeva lost her second round match against Mironova and then had to admit defeat to Ukrainian Anna Kotlyar . In addition, last year's finalist Anastassija Kowaltschuk and the World Cup third in the Combined Pyramid 2019, Elina Nagula , made it to the quarter-finals unbeaten. Last year's third Aljaksandra Hisels was eliminated with just one win in the preliminary round.
With five players, the host Kyrgyzstan provided the second largest delegation after Russia (7). Of them cut Natalya Ivanova and the World Cup debutante Nurgul Termetschikowa out on top. Both finished in 13th place, with Ivanova having won two games, whereas Termechikova reached this rank due to a bye without a win.
In the quarter-finals, Darja Michailowa was eliminated, she was defeated by her compatriot Marija Karpowa (2: 5), who moved into a World Cup semi-final for the second time after the Combined Pyramid World Cup in 2019. There she met Elina Nagula , who reached her third World Cup semifinals with a 5-3 win against the Ukrainian Anna Kotljar. In the semifinals, Karpowa took the lead 1-0, but Nagula finally prevailed 5-1. In the other semifinals, the 2016 and 2018 World Cup finals were reissued: Diana Mironova and Ukrainian Anastassija Kovalchuk competed against each other. The game turned out to be very even. Both players took the lead twice, each followed by a direct equalizer. In the play-off Mironowa narrowly prevailed (8: 5) and thus decided the game with 5: 4 for themselves.
In the final , however, Diana Mironova had to admit defeat to her compatriot Elina Nagula with a clear 0: 5.

final
In the final there was a clash between two Russian women. While the 23-year-old record world champion and defending champion Diana Mironova was already in a World Cup final for the 13th time and was eight times world champion (six times in the Free Pyramid), her 17-year-old opponent, the four-time youth world champion Elina Nagula , was in the Final. She had previously reached the semifinals in the Dynamic Pyramid in 2018 and in the Combined Pyramid in early 2019 . Mironova was unbeaten in the Free Pyramid after a final defeat in 2008 in her last six finals.
The goal of the draw was five competitions, with a time limit of 1:20 hours.
In a hard-fought first game Nagula narrowly secured the first point with 8: 6. After Nagula had clearly won the following two games, the fourth game turned out to be more varied. Nagula prevailed again with 8: 6, who was now only one point short of winning the World Cup. She secured this in the following game with an 8-point series, which made her world champion for the first time four days after her 17th birthday.
