Andrij Andrijowytsch Kljestow ( Ukrainian Андрій Андрійович Клєстов , English transcription: Andrey Klestov ; born  October 14, 1997 ) is a Ukrainian billiard player from Kiev , who primarily competes in the billiard variant Russian billiards . The 2014 youth world champion has been Ukrainian champion five times and reached the final of the Kremlin Cup in 2019 . He also plays pool and snooker .

Career

Russian billiards

From 2009 Klestov regularly took part in the Ukrainian youth championships in Russian billiards . He achieved his first podium finishes in 2012 when he took third place in the dynamic pyramid and combined pyramid disciplines . In the same year he also achieved his first respectable successes in the adult sector. He reached the quarter-finals at a tournament of the Ukrainian Cup and the second round at the Ukrainian Free Pyramid Championship . In December 2012 he won the Hermes Open Cup in Donetsk after defeating Oleksandr Boyko , among others .

In early 2013 Klestov won the championship of Donetsk Oblast in the Combined Pyramid with a 4-0 final victory against Serhij Kowalenko . In October 2013 he played for the first time in the Free Pyramid Youth World Championship , but remained there without a win. In the same year he also won the Ukrainian Youth Cup for the first time.

After he was eliminated in the semi-finals of the Dynamic Pyramid, Klyestov became Ukrainian youth champion in triathlon and in the combined pyramid in July 2014. A little later he moved into the semi-finals of the Combined Pyramid Youth World Cup and was defeated by the Kirghiz Tschyngys Dscholotschijew (2: 5). In September 2014 he was eliminated from the national youth championship in the Free Pyramid in the semifinals against Maksym Ossytschnjuk (3: 5). Two weeks later he managed to get revenge against Ossytschnjuk in the quarter-finals of the Youth World Cup (6-0). Kljestow finally moved into the final and was a 6-3 win against the Belarusian Uladsislau Kurta youth world champion. A few days later he became Ukrainian adult champion for the first time after defeating Pavlo Radionov 6-2 in the final of the Free Pyramid Championship . Before that, he had never made it past the round of 16. In November he played his first adult world championship, the Free Pyramid World Cup 2014 , in which he won his second preliminary round match against Bolorkhuu Erdene 5-1 after a 3: 5 opening defeat to eventual tournament winner Serghei Krîjanovski , before narrowly winning against Sergei Goryslavets (4: 5) eliminated. At the end of the year he won the Ukrainian Youth Cup again.

In July 2015, Klestov achieved his best result in the Ukrainian Cup with a third place. In September 2015 he won the championship of Kiev Oblast in the Dynamic Pyramid with a 4-3 final victory over Ihor Lytowtschenko . At the national youth championships in 2015, he came third in the dynamic pyramid and second in the triathlon. At the Free Pyramid Youth World Cup 2015 , Kljestow retired as defending champion in the preliminary round after losing the decisive preliminary game against Artyom Balow . In October 2015, Klyestov first took part in the Savvidi Cup , the highest endowed tournament in Russian billiards, and made it to the round of 16 after defeating two-time world champion Yevgeny Stalev , among others . In the round of the last 16 he was defeated by Russia's Dmitri Storoshenko (2: 5). A few days later he won the championship of Kiev Oblast in the Free Pyramid in the final against Jurij Smyrnow (5: 2). After he was eliminated as defending champion in the round of 16 against Volodymyr Perkun at the Ukrainian Free Pyramid Championship , he was eliminated at the Free Pyramid World Cup 2015 with a 3-7 opening defeat against Nikita Liwada , the 2013 world champion.

At the beginning of 2016, Klyestov made it into the final of the Ukrainian Cup for the first time and only narrowly lost to Wladyslaw Kossohow ( 5-6 ). In the further course of the year he turned increasingly to the pool, but won a few smaller tournaments in Russian billiards in Kiev. His best result at national level this year was reaching the round of 16 at the Ukrainian Free Pyramid Championship. In November 2016 he took part in the Kremlin Cup in Moscow for the first time and reached the round of 64 there. Two weeks later he reached the semi-finals at the Lviv Open . At the final tournament of the Ukrainian Cup in 2016, he was eliminated in the round of 16.

In February 2017, Klestov won the Ukrainian student championship in the Free Pyramid with a 5-3 final victory over Wladyslaw Prokhorenko . In March he achieved his first tournament victory in the Ukrainian Cup when he defeated Jurij Smyrnow 7-5 in the final of the opening tournament in 2017. Two weeks later he reached the semi-finals at the UBA Open and lost to the eventual tournament winner Volodymyr Perkun. In May he reached the round of 64 at the Moscow Mayor's Cup. In August 2017, Klyestov became national champion for the second time when he beat Bohdan Rybalko 6-2 in the final of the Ukrainian Dynamic Pyramid Championship . At the end of the year he was eliminated again in the round of 16 at the final tournament of the Ukrainian Cup.

In February 2018, Kljestow won three tournaments within two weeks. First, he won the Kiev Oblast Championship in the Combined Pyramid. He then won the Ukrainian Combined Pyramid Championship for the first time after defeating Volodymyr Perkun 6: 5 in the final. Most recently he managed to defend his title at the Ukrainian student championship in the Free Pyramid with a 6-3 win in the final against Jurij Smyrnow. In April 2018 he reached the round of 16 of a world championship for the first time. In his first participation in the Dynamic Pyramid World Cup , he defeated Kairat Ongonussow and Vasif Məmmədov , before losing 6-2 to the eventual finalist Iossif Abramov in the round of 16 . A little later he reached the round of 32 at the Mayor's Cup in Moscow and won the UBA Cup 2018 in the final against Volodymyr Perkun (16: 6). At the Ukrainian championship in the Dynamic Pyramid, he made it to the finals again in 2018 after his victory last year, this time However, he had to admit defeat to Oleksandr Istomin 5: 7. At the Ukrainian Cup in the Combined Pyramid he reached the semi-finals and at the Savvidi Cup 2018 he made it to the quarter-finals, in which he was only slightly defeated 4-5 by the Uzbek Nodirbek Mirzayev . In November 2018 he reached the round of 32 at the Free Pyramid World Cup , in which he lost to Oleg Yerkulew (0: 7). After he was eliminated in the 2019 Ukrainian Combined Pyramid Championship as defending champion in the round of 16 against his successor Mykyta Homenjuk (0: 5), Klyestov won the Ukrainian in February 2019 in the final against Danylo Howtwa (7: 6) for the third time in a row Student championship in the Free Pyramid. Shortly afterwards he reached the round of 32 at the Combined Pyramid World Cup and lost 5-6 to Vladimir Reyes . In March 2019 he won the Elite Professional Open in Vinnytsia by beating Jurij Smyrnow 5-2 in the final . At the Moscow Mayor's Cup in 2019, he reached the round of 16. At the Free Pyramid World Cup 2019 , he reached the round of 32 and only just lost to Jauhen Saltouski ( 5-6 ). At the end of August 2019, he made it into the final of the Ukrainian Dynamic Pyramid Championship for the third time in a row and secured the title for the second time with a 6-5 win over Wladyslaw Denyssow . Two weeks later he won the Ukrainian Cup for the first time in the Combined Pyramid in the final against Volodymyr Perkun 6-2. Shortly thereafter, he achieved his greatest international success to date when he reached the final of the Kremlin Cup in Moscow, after defeating Vladimir Reyes, Pavlo Radionow and Jauhen Saltouski, among others. In the final, however, he had to admit defeat to two-time world champion Iossif Abramow 1: 5. At the Savvidi Cup 2019 , however, there was an early exit in the round of the last 48 against Wolodymyr Perkun.

In January 2020, the first tournament of the newly created tournament series Baltic Pyramid League took place in Hrodna, Belarus . With a 5-1 final win against Uladsislau Bulyka Kljestow won this tournament. In February 2020 Klyestov had to admit defeat to Wladyslaw Denyssow 4-5 in the semifinals at the Ukrainian student championship in the Free Pyramid after three championship titles in a row. A little later he reached the semifinals of the Heraldic Cup. In July 2020, Klyestov became Ukrainian champion in the Combined Pyramid for the second time when he defeated Bohdan Shuhalej 6-4 in the final . It was his fifth national championship title.

Pool

After he had reached the third place in the Kiev city championship in 2016 in 14/1 , Klestov achieved his greatest success in pool billiards in March 2016 when he won the Ukrainian Cup in 14/1 by beating Vitaly Pazura in the final (100: 77). 1 won endlessly. A month later he played for the first time in a tournament of the Baltic Pool League in Minsk and just barely missed the round of 16. In the summer of 2016 he made it to the final of the Ukrainian 9-Ball Cup, but this time Vitaly Pazura (0: 8) was clearly beaten. He reached the semi-finals of the Ukrainian 14/1 Endless Cup in 2018 and lost to Danylo Kaljajew . In December 2019, Klyestov won his first medal at the national championship when he reached the semi-finals in 14/1, in which he was defeated by the eventual Ukrainian champion Danylo Kaljajew with 5:75. A few days later he reached the quarter-finals in the 9-ball competition and only just lost to the eventual winner Vitaly Pazura (5: 6).

In snooker , Kljestow took part in the Ukrainian adult championship for the first time in 2008 at the age of 11 and was eliminated with a win from three games in the preliminary round. In the following years he only played a few small snooker tournaments occasionally. In his second participation in the national championship in 2016, he reached the round of 32, in which he lost to Vitaly Pazura (1: 3). In July 2018 he moved into the final of the Ukrainian U21 Junior Championship , in which he lost 2-0 to Julian Boyko . In May 2019, he finished third in the Kiev city championship after being eliminated in the semifinals against Julian Bojko (2-3).
