Savvidi Cup

The Savvidi Cup ( Russian Международный турнир на приз Почетного президента ФБС ЮФО И.И. Саввиди Meschdunarodny turnir na pris Potschetnogo presidenta FBS jufo II Sawwidi ; German  International tournament for the prize of the Honorary President of PBS SFD II Sawwidi ) is a billiards tournament in Rostov-on-Don ( Russia ), which has been held annually since 2012.

The tournament played in the combined pyramid discipline is the most highly endowed tournament in Russian billiards .

Record winner with three titles is the Kyrgyz Dastan Lepschakow .

history

The tournament, named after Ivan Savidi , the honorary president of the South Russian Billiards Association, was held for the first time in December 2012. The winner was the Ukrainian Pavlo Radionov . After the first five editions were won by five different players, the Kyrgyz Dastan Lepschakow secured the title three times in a row from 2016 to 2018.

The first two events were played in the double knockout system and from the round of 16 onwards in the knockout system , with eight invited players being seeded in the round of the last 16. Since 2014, all participants have been competing against each other in knockout mode right from the start. The combined pyramid discipline is played , but with slightly modified rules. For example, after sinking the game ball, the opponent can decide which ball to take from the table, whereas the official rules allow the player to choose it himself.

Prize money

The Savvidi Cup is the most highly endowed tournament in Russian billiards . At the first edition, the winner received 250,000 Russian rubles , which is a little less than at the Kremlin Cup . In the following years the prize money was increased significantly. In 2016, the winner received over a million rubles for the first time.
