Asis Alimdschanowitsch Madaminow ( Kyrgyz Азиз Алимжанович Мадаминов , English transcription: Aziz Madaminov ; born  January 1 or March 3, 1993 in Bishkek ) is a Kyrgyz billiards player who plays in the Russian billiards variant .

He was third twice in the World Cup, in 2016 in the combined pyramid discipline and in 2019 in the free pyramid .

Career

In February 2011 Madaminov took part in a world championship for the first time. At the Combined Pyramid World Cup , he won his opening game against Dmitri Kirillow and then retired after defeats against Älichan Qaranejew and Maissei Atabaev in the preliminary round. In the same year he was eliminated early on from the World Youth Championship and several larger tournaments. He achieved his best result at the Governor's Cup in Ulyanovsk , where he reached the quarter-finals.

In 2012 Madaminow was in all three disciplines at the world championships. After he had reached the round of the last 64 in the Combined Pyramid and failed without a win in the preliminary round in the Free Pyramid , he reached the sixteenth finals in the Dynamic Pyramid at the end of the year, in which he only narrowly beat Ukrainian Pavlo Radionov (4: 5) was subject. In other tournaments of the year he was mostly eliminated early, best he did at the opening tournament of the Prince Open (last 32) and the Kremlin Cup (last 64).

In the following years Madaminov played only a few tournaments and was unsuccessful. In 2014 he failed to qualify for the Combined Pyramid World Cup in Cholponata and was eliminated in the last 128 of the 2014 Kremlin Cup .

In 2015 Madaminov started more successfully. At the opening tournament he achieved his best result in the Combined Pyramid World Cup with the round of 16 . In the further course of the year he reached the round of 32 at the Savvidi Cup and the Kremlin Cup and was eliminated in the preliminary round at the World Cup finals.

After not taking part in a world championship for more than three years, he achieved his best result to date at the Combined Pyramid World Cup in April 2016 . Before he had never made it past the sixteenth finals, now, after defeating Oleg Yerkulew and Dastan Lepschakow , among others , he moved into the semifinals, in which he was only slightly defeated 5: 6 to the eventual world champion Aleksandr Sidorov . A little later he also won his first medal in the World Cup when he reached the semi-finals and lost there against the eventual tournament winner Serghei Krîjanovski (4: 5). After retiring early at the Moscow Mayor's Cup and the Savvidi Cup , he reached the round of 32 at the 2016 Dynamic Pyramid World Cup in his hometown of Bishkek. The Kremlin Cup 2016 was followed by a defeat at the beginning . At the Free Pyramid World Cup 2016 , he reached the round of 16, in which he lost to Nikita Liwada . At the end of the year he was eliminated from the World Cup finals in the round of 32 against the reigning world champion Leonid Schwyrjajew .

At the beginning of 2017, Madaminov reached the quarter-finals of the Combined Pyramid World Cup and lost to Pawel Plotnikow . In the summer of 2017 he won two tournaments in the Legend Cup tournament series by winning the final against Aleksandr Sidorov and Wladyslaw Kossohow . In September he moved into the semifinals of the Kremlin Cup for the first time, in which he was defeated by the eventual tournament winner Aleksandr Sidorov. After a first round defeat at the Savvidi Cup , he reached the final of the Lemayev Cup, in which he was only slightly defeated by Russian Sergei Goryslavez 5: 6, with only two points short of victory in the decider. At the end of the year he retired early from the World Cup finals and the Swojaka Cup.

In 2018 Madaminow reached the quarter-finals at the Mayor's Cup in Kaliningrad and made it to the second round at the World Cup opener as well as the Savvidi Cup and the World Cup finals. At the Kremlin Cup 2018 , however, he was eliminated in the round of the last 128. In November 2018 he reached the quarter-finals of the Free Pyramid World Cup , in which he was defeated by his compatriot Dastan Lepschakow.

At the beginning of 2019 he was eliminated from the Combined Pyramid World Cup in the round of 16 against Semyon Saizew . The following week he reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup in the same discipline and was defeated by the Uzbek Shahzod Mamirov . A little later he won two Legend Cup tournaments with final victories against Wladislaw Osminin (4: 2) and Serghei Krîjanovski (4: 3) and reached the semi-finals of the final tournament of the series, in which he was defeated by the eventual tournament winner Alexei Schoschin . After he was eliminated early at the Moscow Mayor's Cup, he won his third World Cup medal in June when he reached the semi-finals, in which he was defeated by the reigning world champion Iossif Abramov . Two months later he also reached the semifinals of the Free Pyramid World Cup in Cholponata and was only barely defeated by the Azerbaijani Seymur Məmmədov (4: 5). A little later he reached the semi-finals at the Chechen Open and the sixteenth finals at the Kremlin Cup . In October 2019, he reached the final of the Savvidi Cup , where he lost to Serghei Krîjanovski 3: 5. After a preliminary round at the Lemajew Cup, he reached the semi-finals of the Trestfom Cup and the quarter-finals of the Minsk Cup at the end of the year .

In March 2020, Madaminow took part in the Champions Cup for the first time . In the tournament, which was interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic , after victories against Nikita Wolodin , Valeryj Tschyschou and Diana Mironowa, he finally moved to the final in July, in which he was defeated by Russian Iosif Abramov 7-0.
