Ivan Savvidis ( Greek Ιβάν Σαββίδης ; Russian Иван Игнатьевич Саввиди ; born March 27, 1959 in Santa , Niederkartlien region ) is a Greek - Russian entrepreneur and owner of the football club PAOK Thessaloniki .

Life

Ivan Savvidis was born as the son of Pontic Greeks in Santa (Georgia, Soviet Union), but never learned the Greek language. He studied in Rostov-on-Don and then worked in the Rostov tobacco factory, where he held various positions. In 1993 he became its director and later acquired the majority of the company in a management buy-out . In the following years the company developed under the name "Donskoy Tabak" into the leading tobacco company in Russia. In 2013 Forbes Magazine ranked Savvidis 30th among the richest Russians. In March 2013, he obtained Greek citizenship in addition to Russian. He and his wife Kyriaki Savvidis have two sons.

After a court-ordered fine of 19 million euros for cigarette smuggling in 2009, the Greek tobacco factory SEKAP was economically troubled and Savvidis was able to buy it cheaply.
