Hans-Dieter Taubert (born August 10, 1931 in Kötzschenbroda ; † July 24, 2013 in Dreieichenhain ) was a German gynecologist , the first professor of gynecological endocrinology in Germany and an important doctor in the treatment of impotence and conception. He gained fame through his work in the field of family planning, surgical and drug treatment of childless couples and patients with intersexuality .

Family background

Hans-Dieter Taubert grew up in a medical family. His mother Käte Müller (1910–1968) was the daughter of an administrative employee from Remscheid. His father Rudolf (1900–1978) was the first academic in the Taubert family from the Leipzig area . He was a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics. Rudolf Taubert founded a practice with a small clinic in 1929 at what was then Meissener Strasse 10 in Niederlößnitz (today Meißner Strasse 158: Landhaus Beschke ). In this private clinic - initially with five beds and from 1935 an extension to twelve beds - deliveries and obstetric operations were carried out.

Hans-Dieter Taubert started school in Kötzschenbroda and graduated from high school in 1950. During his stay in the USA, he married his wife Judith Owens from Baltimore in 1963 .

Career

V. l. No. : Hans-Dieter Taubert, Fred Kubli (1930–1987, later director of the University Women's Clinic in Heidelberg) and Otto Käser in 1966 in Frankfurt am Main

In the GDR , Hans-Dieter Taubert, the son of a doctor, was not admitted to study medicine in Leipzig. That is why he applied for a place at university in Germany. Taubert and a helper were able to secretly cross the border between the two German states three times at night, the first time for an introduction and verbal confirmation at the UKGM University Hospital in Marburg. There he began - after a six-week internship as a nurse in his father's clinic - to study medicine. After pre-physics and physics , he continued his studies at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich.

After completing his studies, he worked as a family doctor for three months and then as a medical assistant in the former Krecke Clinic in Munich for nine months . He then went to the USA for ten years , where he trained as a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics at the University of Maryland . He then worked as a research assistant at Rockefeller University in New York and finally worked as an assistant professor at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore .

A chair for gynecological endocrinology was established in 1966 under the direction of Otto Käser (1913–1995), director of the university women's clinic at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . Taubert was appointed full professor in Frankfurt am Main . Thus he was the first professor for gynecological endocrinology in Germany.

Merits

Taubert's medical merits include the use of human gonadotropins to induce ovulation in ovarian insufficiency , the clinical testing of clomiphene , LH-RH , GnRH agonists , prolactin inhibitors , and the further development of the pill . Taubert and his working group had contributed to the fact that the dosage of the sex hormones in the "pill" could be gradually reduced in order to prevent ovulation and thus prevent pregnancy. The unexpected inhibition of ovulation after treatment with a potent GnRH agonist was the basis for the treatment of pre-menopausal breast cancer patients with the GnRH agonist and offers an alternative to ovarian removal. Taubert was the first doctor worldwide who did not surgically treat patients with normal ectopic pregnancy . When treating childlessness, Taubert had taken into account not only women, but also the reproductive function of men and promoted today's specialty of andrology .
