Chang Chun-ha (born August 27, 1918 in Ŭiju , formerly Chosen , today's North Korea , † August 17, 1975 in Uijeongbu , South Korea ) was a South Korean politician , journalist and independence activist against Japanese rule .

Life

Chang fought in the Korean Liberation Army founded by Kim Gu against Japanese rule over Korea. He then became a journalist and political activist. He became a respected politician in South Korea. He spoke out against the Yushin Constitution of 1972 and the resulting Yushin government of the military dictator Park Chung-hee . Chang was under close surveillance by the police and the Korea Central Intelligence Agency (KCIA). The circumstances of death in 1975 are controversial. Officially, he died in a climbing accident. The Truth Commission for Suspicious Deaths set up by Kim Dae-jung in 2000 began an investigation. The KCIA has been linked to this death, but the actual circumstances have not been fully clarified. An exhumation took place in 2012 , the result of which suggests that he may have been murdered.
