ChangeWriters is an association that aims to promote the learning success of students who are considered to be “not schoolable” by improving the teacher-student ratio .

Goals and Activities

The association offers teachers and other interested parties the opportunity to participate in practical seminars, in which new ways of successfully building relationships with students are taught. According to the association and students, the method of writing a diary improves the school performance of the young people, and it also has positive effects on problems such as bullying and violence. There are around 20 school partnerships across Germany.

history

The role model is the commitment of the teacher Erin Gruwell , who met 150 “non-educable high-risk students” in Long Beach in 1994 and helped them all to graduate by giving them a chance to graduate. a. gave the opportunity to write diaries . The story was filmed in the drama Freedom Writers .

In 2010 the school social worker Jörg Knüfken introduced the method at his school in Germany and, after successful pilot projects, founded the ChangeWriters association in 2014 to pass the methods on to educators nationwide.

financing

The association is mainly financed by donations, including the Wübben Foundation, the Dr. Otto Beisheim Foundation and Aqtivator gGmbH, as well as from municipal funds.
