Charbel Georges Merhi

Charbel Georges Merhi CML (born October 12, 1937 in Eddé , Lebanon ) is Maronite Bishop emeritus of Buenos Aires in Argentina .

Life

On August 29, 1964, he was ordained a religious priest of the Congregation of Lebanese-Maronite Missionaries (CML).

He was appointed first bishop of the Eparchy of St. Sharbel of Buenos Aires on October 5, 1990. The Maronite Patriarch , Nasrallah Pierre Cardinal Sfeir , donated him on December 2, 1990, the episcopal ordination . He was assisted as co- consecrators by Georges Abi-Saber OLM from Canada and the auxiliary bishop in Antioch, Roland Aboujaoudé . The inauguration took place on March 17, 1991. As a participant in the Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on the Middle East in October 2010, he underlined the demand for peace between Christians and Muslims because, he said, they were all sons of Abraham .

On April 17, 2013, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
