Charkhari ( Hindi : चरखारी ) is a small town with about 30,000 inhabitants in the historic Bundelkhand region in the Mahoba district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh . Charkhari was once the capital of the princely state of Charkhari .

Location and climate

Charkhari is located in a rocky environment approx. 20 km (driving distance) northwest of the district capital Mahoba ; the small town of Kulpahar is approximately 23 km southwest. history

In 1765 the princely state of Charkhari was created as a result of an inheritance division. The Raja Bikramajit Singh placed his small property under the protection of the British in 1804. He and his successors performed military auxiliary services and were rewarded with additional areas in gratitude for this; At times the national territory reached an area of ​​over 2000 km² before it was reduced in size after India's independence (1947) and integrated into the state of Vindhya Pradesh . In 1950 this remaining area gradually became part of the newly created states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
