Charles Antrobus
Sir Charles James Antrobus , GCMG , OBE (born May 14, 1933 in Old Montrose, St. Vincent , St. Vincent and the Grenadines ; † June 3, 2002 in Toronto , Ontario , Canada ) was Governor General of St. Vincent and the Grenadines .
Life
Antrobus worked in the private sector and was honored as Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) on January 1, 1973 for his services to the St. Vincent community .
On January 1, 1996, Antrobus took over from David Emmanuel Jack as Governor General of St. Vincent and the Grenadines . On October 16, 1996, he was ennobled as Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (GCMG), which is why he continued to use the suffix "Sir". He was being treated in Toronto for a leukemia illness , where he died on June 3, 2002. He was then transferred to Kingstown , the capital of St. Vincent and the Grenadines , where he was buried in the Anglican St. George's Cathedral . After his death, Monica Dacon took over the office of Governor General on a provisional basis, before Frederick Ballantyne officially accepted the request on September 2, 2002.
