Charles Ariiotima

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Charles Ariiotima (born January 18, 1966 ) is a former football referee from Tahiti . He headed various international matches at several major international tournaments. He came into the focus of worldwide sports reporting in 2004 through his decisions in the meeting between Serbia and Montenegro and Tunisia in Group C at the Summer Olympics in Athens on August 17th. When the score was 1-1, he whistled a penalty for the Africans in the 81st minute . Mohamed Jedidi started as a shooter and scored, but Ariiotima had the shot repeated a total of five times. The Tunisians are said to have crossed the penalty area line too early three times and in two shots - which the Serbian-Montenegrin goalkeeper parried - Ariiotima judged that a Serb had run into the penalty area too early. Eventually, the penalty kick was converted in the sixth execution and Tunisia ultimately won the game 3-2.

After retiring from active sport, Ariiotima moved to management and is now in the service of the Fédération Tahitienne de Football coordinator for futsal .
