Charles "Charlie" Burnham (born November 23, 1950 in New York City ) is an American jazz violinist and occasionally mandolin and mandoloncello player .

Live and act

Burnham has been a member of various James Blood Ulmer bands since 1983 , initially to the bassless trio Odyssey with Warren Benbow ( Odyssey , 1983), which was then expanded to a quartet with Amin Ali ( Live at the Caravan of Dreams 1986); He was also involved in later albums and tours in Ulm ( Forbidden Blues 1996, Bad Blood in the City: The Piety Street Sessions , 2007). From 1986 to 1991 he was a member of the String Trio of New York . He also worked with Mario Pavone , Peter Apfelbaum , Steven Bernstein , Ted Daniel , Medeski, Martin & Wood ( The Dropper 2000), Marcus Rojas and in the Susie Ibarra Trio (with Cooper-Moore ). In the field of jazz Burnham participated in 42 recording sessions between 1974 and 2011, including a. by Cassandra Wilson ( Blue Light 'til Dawn 1993, New Moon Daughter ), Gina Leishman , Rob Reddy and Steve Swell ( Suite for Players, Listeners and other Dreamers ). In 2011 the trio album by Charlie Burnham with Kenny Wollesen and Tony Jones , Pitch, Rhythm and Consciousness was created . Burnham, who lives in New York City , leads the quartet Hidden City and plays in the improvisation ensemble We Free Strings around Melanie Dyer .
