Charles Gaudichaud-Beaupré (born September 4, 1789 in Angoulême , † January 16, 1854 in Paris ) was a French botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Gaudich. "

Life

Gaudichaud-Beaupré was a botanist on several extended overseas voyages. As a botanist, he accompanied Louis de Freycinet on a world tour (1817–1820) ; for this it was Jean René Constant Quoy selected (1790-1869). In honor of Admiral Freycinet, he later named the genus Freycinetia that was first collected on this research trip . From 1830 to 1832 Gaudichaud-Beaupré took part in a trip to South America on board the L'Herminie and came to Brazil , Chile and Peru . He also took part in a world tour by Auguste-Nicolas Vaillant (1793-1858) on board La Bonite from 1836 to 1837 .

In 1828 he became a corresponding member of the Académie des sciences and in 1837 a full member. In 1829 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina . In 1834 he was accepted as a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences .

Dedication names

The genus Gaudichaudia Kunth from the Malpighia family (Malpighiaceae) has been named after him.
