Charles Gilibert
Charles Gilibert (born November 29, 1866 in Paris , † November 10, 1910 in New York City ) was a French opera singer (baritone).
Life
Gilibert studied at the Paris Conservatory and made his debut at the Paris Opéra-Comique in 1888 . From 1891 to 1900 he was a member of the Ensemble des Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels. Here he took part in the world premieres of the operas Maître Martin by Jan Blockx (1892), La Vivandière by Benjamin Godard (1896) and Tijl Ulenspiegel by Blockx (1900).
As a guest he appeared between 1894 and 1909 at the Covent Garden Opera , where he took part in the world premiere of Jules Massenet's La Navarraise in 1894 . He also appeared in the world premieres of Gustave Charpentier's Louise (as father, 1909) and Le jongleur de Notre-Dame von Massenet (1906, as Boniface) in London.
From 1900 to 1903 he was engaged at the Metropolitan Opera , where he sang among others the Schaunard in La Bohème (1900) and the sacristan in Tosca von Puccini . From 1906 until his sudden death in 1910 he was engaged at the Manhattan Opera House . Gilibert was married to the Belgian singer Gabrielle Lejeune .
