Jan Blockx
Joannes Josephus "Jan" Blockx (born January 25, 1851 in Antwerp , † May 26, 1912 in Kapellenbos near Antwerp) was a Belgian composer .
He studied in Antwerp with Peter Benoît and in Leipzig with Carl Reinecke . In 1886 he became a teacher at the Flemish Music School and in 1901 director of the Antwerp Conservatory . With his operas and choral works he is one of the most important Flemish composers alongside Benoît.
He is buried in the Schoonselhof cemetery in Antwerp.
