Charles McCarry

Charles McCarry (born June 14, 1930 in Pittsfield , Massachusetts , † February 26, 2019 in Fairfax County , Virginia ) was an American author .

Life

McCarry grew up in the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts. He served in the US Army and was a correspondent for The Stars and Stripes . In the 1950s he was a speechwriter for President Dwight D. Eisenhower . He then worked for the CIA and worked for them worldwide. In 1967 he left the CIA and started writing. In 1971 he published his first book, The Miernik Dossier . The main character of the work was the spy Paul Christopher . Over the years, McCarry wrote several sequels. His books have been translated into more than 20 languages. His novel The Better Angels was filmed in 1982 under the title Wrong Is Right (German: Flammen am Horizont ).

He was also Editor-at-Large at National Geographic . McCarry was married and had children. Among them is Nathan McCarry .
