Charles Michael Baggs

Charles Michael Baggs (born May 21, 1806 in Belville , County Westmeath , Ireland , † October 16, 1845 in Bath ) was an Irish Roman Catholic clergyman and Vicar Apostolic .

Life

His parents were the Protestant lawyer Charles Baggs († 1820) and his Catholic wife Eleanor Kyan. After the death of his father Charles Michael Baggs was in Collegio Inglese educated in Rome, where he on 5 December 1830 by Cardinal Giacinto Placido Zurla the ordination received. In 1840 he succeeded the later Cardinal Nicholas Wiseman as head of the English College. On November 22nd, 1843 he was appointed papal chamberlain and entered the service of the curia as consultor of the index congregation .

Pope Gregory XVI appointed Charles Michael Baggs on January 9, 1844 titular Bishop of Pella and Vicar Apostolic of the Vicariate Apostolic Western District in England . He was ordained bishop on January 28th of the same year by Giacomo Filippo Fransoni , Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation Propaganda Fide ; Co-consecrators were Bishops George Hilary Brown and William Bernard Allen Collier OSB .

The following year Charles Michael Baggs died in Prior Park near Bath, where he was initially buried. His bones were later transferred to Bristol.
