Charles godmother

Charles Patin (born February 23, 1633 in Paris , † October 10, 1693 ) was a French doctor and numismatist .

Life

Charles Godmother was the son of the doctor Guy Godmother . After becoming a lawyer, he studied medicine. Since he was persecuted by Colbert for reasons that had not yet been explained , he left France and traveled to Germany and Italy. Eventually he settled in Padua , where he held a chair in medicine and then in surgery . He became a member of the Accademia dei Ricovrati . On March 4, 1679, Karl Patinus with the nickname Galenus I was elected a member ( matriculation no. 87 ) of the Leopoldina .

Godmother worked intensively on numismatics and archeology and published the following works, among others: Familiæ romanæ ex antiquuis numismatibus (Paris 1665), Introduction à l'histoire par la connaissance des médailles (Paris 1665), an often reissued work under the title Histoire des médailles , Imperatorum romanorum numismata ( Strasbourg 1671), Thesaurus numismatum e museo Patini ( Amsterdam 1672), Relations de voyages ( Basel 1673), Lyceum Patavinum (Padua 1681).

Charles Godmother married Madeleine, née Homanet, with whom he had two daughters: Charlotte-Catherine and Gabrielle-Charlotte.
