Charles Quiney
Charles Quiney (born June 11, 1937 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria , Spain , † May 5, 2007 ; actually Carlos Alfonso Ramon Quiney Lodos ) was a Spanish (film) actor .
Quiney is considered to be the "first Spanish Zorro and Robin Hood" and was primarily a (main) actor in various Zorro and Robin Hood films, as well as in so-called spaghetti westerns during the 1970s.
Career
Quiney was involved early on in the "amateur theater scene" of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria at the Teatro Insular de Cámara de Las Palmas ("Island Chamber Theater of Las Palmas"); later he received the "CITE" artist grant from the Ministerio de Información y Turismo de Las Palmas. he attended the drama school in Madrid from 1968 to 1970, where he was also trained as "Director de Teatro" and was influenced by the theater theories of Konstantin Stanislawski . He then worked as an actor and director for various theater productions in northern Spain and Gran Canaria, especially in the Perez Galdos theater, v. a. from pieces by US authors Williams Inge , Tennessee Williams and Harold Pinter ; he also played in film adaptations of theater productions for Spanish television. He made his film debut in the 1969 film Comando al infierno . From 1969 to 1974 he was mainly active in Spanish-Italian co-productions; later he worked in Melbourne and Sydney (1974/1975), in Barcelona and in Düsseldorf (1975 to 1977).
In his films he mainly worked in productions by the directors José Luis Merino and José Maria Zabalza .
Private life
Quiney grew up in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria , Spain as the scion of a hotelier family. He was married twice; the first marriage resulted in two daughters and a son. After finishing his acting career, Quiney lived in Gran Canaria and Lanzarote , where he then worked in the real estate industry, ran a piano bar in Playa del Inglés , Maspalomas , Gran Canaria and worked as the manager of a sports club in Costa Teguise on Lanzarote.
Trivia
According to the legend handed down within the family, Charles Quiney came from a branch of the Quiney family in England, which at the time was connected to the William Shakespeare family through friendship and marriage to members of both families.
