Charles Roesch (born January 23, 1922 in Lichtenberg ( Alsace ), † December 19, 2015 ) was a French table tennis coach .

career

Charles Roesch studied mathematics and worked as a teacher in Metz after the war. He dealt very intensively with the game of table tennis, but was never active as a competitive player. His work as a trainer was strongly influenced by the Yugoslav trainer Tibor Harangozo , in whose table tennis school he also worked in the meantime.

Trainer

Roesch worked as a trainer in different countries. In 1969 he was hired by the French table tennis federation as head coach. The great successes of Jacques Secrétin and Claude Bergeret fell during his time . In 1978 he moved to Switzerland and worked successfully as a Swiss national coach until 1983. After the descent of the German table tennis men’s national team at the 1983 World Cup , the German Table Tennis Federation (DTTB) signed him up at the instigation of chairman Hans Wilhelm Gäb . Charles Roesch worked there as head coach until 1989 and at that time laid the foundation for the upward development of German table tennis. The establishment of the German Table Tennis Center in Duisburg in 1985 was based on his initiative. The world championship title of Jörg Roßkopf / Steffen Fetzner in men's doubles at the 1989 World Cup in Dortmund was one of the highlights of his work. Then Charles Roesch ended his work for the DTTB and retired.

However, some criticized Roesch's working method , especially the players affected by the upheaval, but also the Swedish coach Christer Johansson .

In 1994 he was made an honorary member of the Association of German Table Tennis Trainers VdTT.

Private

Charles Roesch was married and had two sons. After the end of his active career, he lived in Carcarennes on the Mediterranean.
