from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Christer Johansson (born December 10, 1944 in Eskilstuna ) is a Swedish table tennis player and trainer. He won the European Championship twice with Sweden. From 1974 to 1979 he was the national trainer of the German Table Tennis Association DTTB .

Career as a player

The left-hander Johansson began playing table tennis in 1956 in the Verdandi club. In 1964 he moved to Mölndal. He won the European Championship with the Swedish national team in 1964 and 1966 . In doubles, he made it to the semi-finals at the EM in 1964.

Johansson competed in three world championships : 1965 , 1967 and 1971 . In 1967 he took 3rd place with the Swedish team and 4th place in 1971.

At the Northern European Championships in Helsinki in 1967 he reached the final in doubles, with the team he won gold. According to his own statements, he was nominated for the Swedish national team about 20 times between 1961 and 1967.

Coaching career

In 1966 Johansson became the national coach of Sweden. During his tenure, Stellan Bengtsson became world champion in singles (1971) and his brother Kjell Johansson world champion in doubles (1973).

From September 1, 1974, the DTTB hired him as a national coach; he became the successor to Hans Alsér . Johansson was solely responsible for the German national team.

First he scrapped "old" players, such as Klaus Schmittinger , and rejuvenated the team. This has been criticized by many experts. His plan to ignore the reigning German champion Agnes Simon for the 1976 European Championships in Prague caused a sensation because she seemed too old to him at the age of 41. After heated discussions, he nominated Simon for the individual competitions, but not for the women's team.

After the 1979 World Cup, Johansson left the DTTB. Istvan Korpa became his successor . Johansson later worked as a coach in Norway, Switzerland (until 1996) and Luxembourg as well as time, in the German Bundesliga (with TTC Grenzau , Germania Schnelsen and BSV Eintracht empty) and DTTB member associations (such as when Niedersachsen Table Tennis Association from January 1998). In 1988 he worked for the Donic company. At the European Championships in 1990 in Gothenburg Johansson looked after the GDR team .

In 2001 Johansson was hired by the Berlin club 3B as a trainer for the young women. A year later he took over the post of head coach in Luxembourg, in April 2007 he became sports director of the Luxembourg TT Association.
